When she meets Carson, attraction flares instantly, and when he hears there is danger surrounding her, he steps in and insists she stay with him so he can keep her safe. When she learns of the mystery surrounding his step-mother and realizes that she is connected to someone that might be involved, she hopes it won’t affect Carson’s feeling for her.

Excerpt

“Wow.” She glanced over at her silent driver, wondering if he’d grown immune to the beauty. “I’ve never seen stars like this.”

Maybe some of her wonder seeped through his frustration, because he slowed the vehicle, then stopped altogether, the engine rumbling at idle in the creeping night. They sat on a hilltop with meadows rolling out into the distance on one side, and a shadow of rocky cliffs and trees on the other. He snapped off the headlights to give them a better view and turned off the ignition. The engine ticked for a few moments and then went silent.

“It’s amazing how much the lights of a city detract from the night sky.” Carson tipped his head back, too, his hands resting on his sprawled, denim-covered knees.

The right one hovered close to her leg, radiating a warmth she could feel. Or maybe it was the electric current of attraction that made her skin tingle that way beneath her leggings. She had been on a few dates since breaking things off with Austin but nothing serious. She definitely hadn’t experienced the sizzling awareness she got from being around Carson. What a shame for her body to finally wake up again around a man she needed to impress with her professionalism.

“It’s funny,” she said, needing to break the intimate thread of silence between them, “because I always think I live in a quieter area of Los Angeles.” She tried not to think about his knee next to hers. His hand close to her leg. But memories of the way he’d touched her earlier—shifting her thigh on the horse—sent a fresh surge of heat through her.

“Even in Cheyenne, you can’t see the stars the way you can out here. There aren’t many perks to ranching, but the night sky is definitely one of them.”

Straightening in her seat, she peered over at him. The breeze turned cooler.

“You don’t like your work?” She was curious about him, this man who allowed a film production company onto his property but couldn’t really relinquish control. “After seeing you on horseback today, I guess I just assumed you were born in a saddle.”

He’d ridden beside her briefly before setting her loose to try the track on her own.

“Almost.” She thought she heard a hint of a smile in his voice. Or was that wishful thinking? “But I never imagined myself overseeing cattle at my age. Ranching is fine for my twin brother, but I thought I’d be riding rodeo into my thirties.”

She hadn’t known about the twin brother. Or the rodeo past. Still, she could relate to what he was saying. She felt him shift beside her, turning toward her. A gust of wind blew through her hair, flicking strands against her cheek.

“I never thought I’d be recreating sword fights or high-speed chases, either. But sometimes life takes surprising turns.”

“I’ll bet it’s an interesting story how you got here, Emma Layton.” Her name on his lips felt as intimate as a caress to a woman who hadn’t been touched by a man in a long, long time.

The rush of heat through her veins shouldn’t have caught her off guard—she’d been feeling it all day around him. She’d run four miles to try to escape it. Even so, the magnetic force that seemed to pull her toward him was like nothing she’d ever experienced. Her shoulders shifted fractionally closer. Her knee brushed his.

She drew in a sharp breath at the contact, ripples of pleasure radiating out from the point where she touched him. She forgot what they were talking about. Couldn’t think of words to say even if she remembered. There was only the moment and the man. The endless starry sky enveloping them like a dream.

Maybe that was why she found herself leaning even closer—it all felt surreal. Like a time out from the worry and stress of her real life, where everything was suddenly simpler. Where kissing Carson McNeill seemed like the only thing that mattered.

Her hand landed on his chest. Warm. Strong. Inviting.

She splayed her fingers wider, wanting to feel more of him. Then she tipped her face up to his. She was close enough to see him well despite the darkness. His eyes locked on hers for an instant—like two stars close up.

And then his lips claimed hers.

He's tall.
He's dark.
He's brutally handsome...
And he may be her only hope.

Kit Jernigan despairs of ever fitting in with her new tight-knit K9 unit—they've been through too much to welcome a stranger. So when a killer strikes, it's a fight to convince her fellow officers to trust her long enough to catch the woman she knows is responsible.

She can't do it on her own. What she needs most is a partner: local fire spotter Wesley March.

Wes knows in his heart that Kit is right, and he's willing to leave his lonely tower to help her prove it. But the more time they spend together, the hotter the fire smolders...and the more danger they're in. A member of the K9 unit's inner circle is determined to have her revenge—no matter who gets burned in the process.

This time, it's personal.

An explosive ending! With a return to Monroe, Colorado, Katie Ruggle brings us another story in her Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series. If you’ve been reading this series, you will recognize most of the supporting cast from previous books. We see Otto, Hugh, Theo and all of their significant others join forces to protect the next secretive addition to Jules’ house, but the new law in town is suspicious from the start. Will Kit be able to fit in with this existing team, or will her doubting nature make them hesitant to bring her into the fold? This storyline was exciting with danger flaring often. The ending was quite explosive and left us with a satisfying resolution. Really enjoyed it!

Kit Jernigan and her K9 partner Justice are new in town and not sure what to make of the ravaged town they drive into. It seems the town folk have had some issues of late, and she’s not sure what exactly it is she’s walking into. Her team seems to have a lot of secrets and don’t seem willing to trust her with much. Will she be able to prove her worth before danger strikes?

Wesley March is a brilliant loner who keeps to himself with his inventions in the forest service fire observation tower he works in. He doesn’t receive many guests and doesn’t venture off of his mountain very often, but the one time he does, he runs across Kit arriving in town. He’s intrigued by her, and that doesn’t happen very often. He’s socially awkward, but he knows there’s something about her that is drawing him like a moth to a flame.

Meet the Arizona Vengeance, hockey’s hottest new team. They’re burning up the ice—until a one-night-stand with the coach’s daughter freezes one player in his skates.

Bishop Scott, co-captain. Not too shabby, huh? It’s all part of my fresh start with the NHL’s latest expansion team, and that means new teammates, a new coach, a new city, and a big new contract. Basically, I cannot f***ing wait to show my old squad what they’re missing.

But first, I decide to check out the town before the grind begins. Turns out Arizona chicks are totally smokin’, and I’m fortunate enough to meet one who’s looking for the same thing I am: a night of anonymous, unforgettable, no-strings-attached sex.

Fast forward to the Vengeance arena. It’s the last place I expect to see her again—let alone in her own office. Then bells go off and I finally realize who this girl is: Brooke Perron. My new coach’s daughter. All of a sudden, we’re picking up right where we left off, which means our hands are all over each other. That’s when her dad—my boss—walks in. And before I can get a word out, Brooke’s introducing me as her fiancé.

Sure, she just saved my ass. So why do I get the feeling Brooke’s going to turn my world upside down? Maybe it’s because this fake relationship feels way too real. . . .

Forbidden fruit always tastes better! With the kick off of a new hockey series, Sawyer Bennet introduces us to the Arizona Vengeance team and brings us Bishop’s story. The characters are quick to grab attention, and keep us entertained throughout. The team is coming on strong and has a batch of guys that look for some fun times as we dig further into this series. Can’t wait for more of their stories! Really enjoyed!

Hot shot hockey player Bishop Scott might just have a little grudge to even up against his former team now that he’s been snapped up by the newest team in the NHL, Arizona Vengeance. He plans to play the best hockey of his life, but needs to cut loose the night before training starts to get it out of his system for a bit. When he meets a gorgeous woman at the bar who seems just as down as him for a single night of hot, steamy, no holds barred sex, he’s ready to go!

She sitting here in her office at the arena and in he walks to snag her into a steamy kiss like the night never ended. Too bad her dad just walked in! Sparks fly when the hot-shot divorce lawyer meets the high-powered wedding planner. The only question is, what kind?

If you ever get married, remember my name: Max Henderson. In my line of work, you acquire a certain perspective on supposedly everlasting unions. . . .

1. Pre-nups are your friend.
2. The person you married is not the person you’re divorcing.
3. And I hope you didn’t spend much on the wedding because that was one helluva waste of hard-earned cash, wasn’t it?

But some guys are willing to take a chance. Like my brother, who thinks he’s going to ride off into the sunset with the woman of his dreams in a haze of glitter on unicorns. And the wedding planner—the green-eyed beauty who makes a living convincing suckers to shell out thousands of dollars on centerpieces—is raking it in on this matrimonial monstrosity.

The thing is, Charlie Love is not unlike me. We’re both cogs in the wedding-industrial complex. As the best man, I know her game—and I can play it better than her. But after one scorching, unexpected kiss, I’m thinking I might just want to get played.

Opposites attract and chemistry explodes! With the latest series from Kate Meader, she gives a quirky twist on rom-com a try … and doesn’t disappoint! Her characters are fresh and entertaining, the story line was attention grabbing enough to entrench us quickly and keep us entertained throughout. I will admit to loving the drama of her sexy firefighters and hockey players slightly more, but I can dig the rom-com on occasion.

Max Henderson makes his living based on the ugly side of love. As a prestigious divorce attorney, he’s seen just how bad it can get between two people who swore to be each other’s everything just a short time ago. He’s cynical enough about the institution of marriage that you’ll never see him anywhere near it!

Wedding planner Charlie Love just happens to be planning a wedding that he is going to want to be involved in. He might not agree with it all for himself, but he’s going to have to bite his tongue and agree to the things she and the bride and groom plan. Along the way, an attraction flares between the two of them and he just might find himself looking forward a forever after all when it’s all said and done.

To have and to hold—

until the case is solved?

When an undercover assignment pairs laid-back Florida detective Dante Matthews with by-the-book cop Eloise Archer, he knows it won’t be easy. And not just because they’re competing for the same promotion. Now they’re living together under the same roof, and it’s getting harder to ignore his deepening feelings for his “wife.” Can he convince Eloise to partner up—for life?

An intense story line, filled with intrigue, danger and a happily ever after! The latest from Tara Randel packs a punch! Not only do we get the normal sweet romance that she’s known for, but we also get a boatload of mystery as they go undercover and we have to try to figure out who the bad guys are in the midst of a dangerous criminal ring. The characters were well developed, the plot flowed fairly smoothly and the case kept my attention. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of their romance together, but overall, it was a compellingly rich plot and gave me that happily ever after I was looking for.

Florida detective Dante Matthews is a fun-loving guy. His leap before he thinks attitude has gotten him into trouble a few times in his career, but he always gets the job done and it’s simply the only way he’s ever known to be. What they don’t count on, is the endless pull of attraction drawing them to wish they really were the husband and wife team they are portraying!

As far as flings go, single dad Gabe Trahan is pretty sure that Addison Sloan is his best bet. Once a month, Addison comes to New Orleans and then…It. Is. On. Until Addison returns to New York, it’s just hot, happily-no-strings-attached sex. And beignets. And jazz. But lately for Gabe, it isn’t nearly enough.

Sure, maybe Addison’s gotten a bit hooked on Gabe. After all, who can resist a guy who’s so sexy, so charming, and so…available? But maybe he’s too available for her right now. Addison’s just moved to New Orleans, and relationships are definitely off the table. Besides, guys always bail when they learn her secret: she’s a single mom.

Only Gabe’s not running. Worse, he’s thrilled. But Addison never signed up for ever-after romance, and Gabe won’t settle for anything less. Now it’s a battle of wills—and when it comes to the woman he’s falling for, Gabe isn’t above playing a little dirty.

Dirty-talking and heart-string pulling GOLD! You will not want to miss a minute of the latest series Erin Nicholas has in store for us! Single dads loose in The Big Easy, doing the best job they can to raise their kids while finding the women of their dreams in the process. This first book brought us the story of the king of dirty-talk Gabe and uptight Addison. They’ve been having a sexy fling, but when she moves to town and they each find out the other has a kid, the situation becomes complex. He’s all in, but she’s dragging her feet. It takes some tough love and adorable kids to soften her stance into giving love a chance. A really fun read that I devoured in one sitting … looking forward to more in the series!

Single dad and New Orleans bar owner Gabe Trahan thought he hit the jackpot when he met the delectable Addison several months ago. One weekend a month she arrives in town and blows his mind with steamy sex, laughter and magical trips around the city. Lately he’s been finding her on his mind more often and wishing their time wasn’t so limited together … if only she’d consider relocating!

Architect Addison Sloan enjoys her time with Gabe, and it fits her plan of casual and stress free perfectly. Unbeknownst to him, this was the last weekend she plans to show up to meet him because she’s calling the fling off. Moving to New Orleans herself for a job changes the scenario to too close to home for her liking. Not to mention, she has a daughter that never came up in their discussions … that’s got to be cause for a man like him to take off, right?
