Their portion of the story was fresh and exciting, but the secondary story of Dorian and Ray’s family felt like we’d already been there. We might not have known every aspect of how the kids came to be part of their family, but it still felt like a repeat of time we had already covered. I would have enjoyed it more if the true story line had been more developed rather than going back to an old subject, but it was a nice added addition to the series as a whole.

Kendrick has been steadfast and true for as long as he’s been helping the Linear Tactical team. I would have liked a little more detail of how he came to be the man he is today, but I enjoyed him none-the-less.

Neo is mysterious and delightful. We learned things about her background that showed us what makes her tick.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys non-stop action and suspense mixed with a whole lot of heart and feels!

Kate is independent and a real go-getter with a solid heart underneath her tough gal persona. I enjoyed getting to know her very much.

I recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys a hockey story filled with romance and a close-knit group of friends and teammates who make for a powerful story.

We walk into the bright and sunny apartment. Being a corner unit, it has lots of windows, and the décor is light and airy, all pale gray and white. “Cute place,” I say. “Thanks. It’s tiny but I love the neighborhood.” “It looks like you.” Kate gives me a skeptical look. “Organized. Tidy. Modern.” She gives me a long, impassive look. “That’s me, huh? Tidy?” Shit. There I go again. I called her tough that night and I think she was insulted. Now I’ve done it again. “Well, not right now,” I admit, eyeing her sweaty hair and face. That probably didn’t make it better. “You’re not wrong.” She sighs and sets the bear head on the small island. “Okay, help me get this off. I really need to pee now.” We wrestle her out of the costume, and I try not to notice that I’m touching her. Under the getup, she’s wearing a thin tank top and a pair of tiny, tight black shorts. I swallow hard. One hand grazes her bare arm. Then her thigh. I hear her sharp intake of breath and my gaze lands on her nipples, now hard and poking against her bra and tank top. Christ. I kneel to help her step out of the costume. She sets a hand on my shoulder for balance and lifts one long, sleek leg. I want to run my hands up and down her leg so badly my palms tingle. My dick is pushing aggressively against the fly of my jeans. I look up at her. She’s watching me, her lips parted, her eyes pupils dilated. A flush stains her cheeks and she catches her bottom lip between her teeth. Daringly, I set my hands on her calf and she pulls the other foot free of the fur garment. I slide my hands around the back of her firmly muscled calves, and then up to the backs of her knees. She shivers. “Hunter…” She’s not stopping me. I glide my hands up the backs of her thighs, then over the little shorts to cup her ass. I straighten my legs and stand, pulling her closer. Bending my head, we’re nearly nose to nose. Her eyelashes flutter. Our mouths are so close… “Kate.” She pulls back, her eyes full of regret. “Hunter. We can’t do this.” I close my eyes at the stab of disappointment. “Right. Right. Hattie has given her life to the pleasure of serving god and his people, so when she sees a window into easing her sister’s suffering, she sets out on a journey of healing. Along the way her beliefs are challenged and her past resurfaces.

I loved the emotional depth that arose from this story and each aspect of it. Highly recommend!

Lucien is a wayward soul who must find his way and lead his newly crowned kingdom the way his uncle and cousin would have wanted him to. He never expects one night of release to change his life yet again, but there’s no denying that he wants this chance at a family.

Aurelie is a bit of a take on Cinderella with wicked family in her past as she now finds herself alone and without a connection. She can’t resist one night of passion with a sexy stranger, but she soon finds herself betrothed and with child.

I highly recommend this fast paced story to anyone who loves a royal romance with heartfelt characters and powerful back stories.

The ending was a tad abrupt and I wanted a little more there, but overall the emotional depth was spot on, the romance was steaming hot and the characters were so easy to like and cheer on. I’m looking forward to more of Rose Bend!

Sydney is impossible to dislike. She’s reached the point in life where she’s tired of living for someone else and she wants to be happy for a change. Her surprise pregnancy shook up her semi-friendly divorce, but coming home to Rose Bend seems like the way to go.

Cole is complex. One one side, he’s obviously still buried in grief for his wife and son, but on the other side he’s so ready to wrap his dirty talking body around this woman that makes him want to do wicked things to her every single time she is near. I loved his entire family!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a passionate romance that heals the wounds of hte past as a happily ever after rolls onto the scene one day at a time.

I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys an intrigue filled with strong connections and a satisfying happily ever after.

Digby is H-O-T. He’s confident and self-assured but his kind-heart is what really endears him to the reader. I loved getting to know him.

I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced, passionate journey towards happily ever after with a strong punch of drama along the way.

The saga continues! With the second book in the Kyra and Jake Investigations series Carol Ericson picks up the story where we left off in the first book with THE DECOY. The mystery is attention grabbing, and the characters are interesting. I’m not as big of fan of the slow burn will they/won’t they type of relationship being portrayed here to spread it out among four books, but they do hold my attention. I’m looking forward to more of their story.

Kyra is not only haunted by her mother’s unsolved cold case, but also from her own tainted past. She’s a solid character and draws our attention easily.

Jake is an all around good guy. There don’t seem to be many that can cross his path and not strike up a kinship with him.

I recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys a multi-faceted who-done-it that brings one case to a head and then shows us there’s another side yet to come into play.

He lifted a brow. “Are you going to actually be helpful now or not?”

She loved every single thing about this petting zoo.

“Oh, I’m not going anywhere,” she told him. “I’m definitely going to help.”

He sighed.

Feeling suddenly lighter and happier than she had in a long time—and that was saying something as she was generally light and happy, not to mention on her way to Paris soon—Charlie turned back to the animals.

“Okay, now that we know each other better, how about you all be sweet and head back to the barn?”

Not one animal even looked at her.

“Hey, Stan?” she called to the big goat. “You’re clearly a leader. How about you show me that you can do some good with all that staunch determination and lead everyone back to the barn?”

“You can’t be serious,” the guy said. “Talking to them isn’t going to work.”

“Talking is what I do.”

“No kidding.”

She just lifted a brow. “So what should I do instead?”

Maybe he could give her an opening for charming him into putting that very nice, smirky, sarcastic mouth against hers and…

“Nudge ’em,” he said simply.

Now she blinked at him. “What?”

“Nudge them,” he said again.

“Just… nudge them? As in, push them?” She narrowed her eyes. Were they talking about goats? Or were they maybe talking about grumpy farmers who needed more than a subtle flirtation to make a move?

“Sometimes that’s all they need.”

Okay then. She was going to keep that in mind.

“So…” He nodded toward the goats.

She blew out a breath. Okay, so for right now, they were talking about goats.

Charlie approached the smallest of the animals. He—or she—looked up at her. “Hello, I’m Charlotte. Would you please accompany me across the street back to your barn?” She heard the man’s snort even from a distance. That made her smile even though she was still stuck with the problem of herding goats.

The goat, of course, didn’t move a step.

“I would very much enjoy it if you would grant me the pleasure of your company across the street at your barn,” she told the goat.

This time the goat didn’t even lift his head.

Charlie propped a hand on her hip. “I don’t feel that we know each other well enough for me to actually put my hands on your body, so it really would be easier if you would just head in the general direction of your barn.”

“For fuck’s sake.” Suddenly the man was back beside her.

He bent and lifted the goat, and Charlie couldn’t help but think this had worked out very well. She hadn’t had to touch the goats, but she hadn’t been entirely unhelpful to him.

Okay, that wasn’t true. She had been completely unhelpful to him. But she hadn’t left him out here with the goats alone.

The man pivoted and pressed the goat to her chest. Instinctively her arms went up and around it. He let go.

And just like that, she had her arms full of goat.

Charlie gasped, partially in surprise and partially because it only took her a millisecond to think about the fact that she now had a barnyard animal up against her Alex Perry cocktail dress.

“You have to be kidding,” she said to the man.

“When nudging doesn’t work, sometimes you have to get hands-on.”

Charlie blew out a breath. She was tucking that away in her idea of how to handle him too. But she was preoccupied at the moment.

And not so sure she wanted to kiss him after all.

No, that wasn’t true. She still wanted to kiss him. Especially now that he was standing closer.

Even if she had to kiss him over the back of a goat.

Which probably meant she really wanted to kiss him.
