A really great read … it’s feisty yet has a warm, gentle side as well … it’s steamy, yet endearing at the same time … and best of all, it’ll steal your heart from start to finish!

Darcy Butler is fresh out of a three year prison sentence for pounding on her abusive brother-in-law. She only wishes she had done more permanent damage that would have stopped him from killing her sister in a drunk-driving accident a few months later and leaving her niece an orphan! She promised her sister she’d make sure LuLu was okay if anything ever happened to her, and she’s trying to do just that … only hear guardian’s lawyer keeps putting up road blocks!

Army Captain, Matt Peterson has been juggling a lot for the last two years since he became the only family little LuLu had left and turned his world upside down to take her in. The plot keeps us turning the pages to see what’s going to happen and who’s going to pay for the crimes that have been committed. It also sets us up nicely for the next story … I can’t wait!

“Hey, boss. What’s up?”

He steepled his hands on his desk and peered at her with his dreamy hazel eyes.

Damn. Dreamy? She meant irritating. Beady even.

The weather was unseasonably cold already and he was sporting a pair of corduroy pants and a somewhat ugly argyle sweater that she knew had been a Christmas gift from his mother last year. Not the most stylish of outfits and yet somehow he looked like he’d walked out of the pages of an L.L.Bean catalog. Just because he was tall with broad shoulders and had really cute sandy-brown hair that flopped on his head because he needed a haircut. And today he was wearing his glasses. What was it about a large lumberjack-looking man who wore glasses? Why did that make her stomach twist up into knots? And then there was his lopsided smile…

What in the heck was she doing? This was Sawyer Wallace, lifelong friend and, more importantly, boss. She couldn’t size him up like a piece of meat. Especially because they worked together. Especially because of what had happened to her in New York.

She shrugged.

Recently hired as his new temporary PA, Georgie Jones already has a great relationship with his siblings even if his first impression of her is quite flighty. She can’t deny he’s hunky and sends a thrill throughout her body with just one look, but she’s certainly not the type to do happily ever after. “Am I going blind?”

A drumming sound signaled Dr. Hamilton tapping on his desk. Then a long sigh.

“Gene therapy studies are still too early to be conclusive. Amberley, I wish I had a better prognosis. This is a heck of a thing.”

Queen Leyna of Aidara made the difficult decision to put duty first when she took over the throne at a young age and chose to end her relationship with her childhood best friend and first love Xavier. She has worked hard to be the best Queen she can be and to keep her kingdom prosperous and at peace. When a possible threat arises, she is put in the position of having to revisit the past and relive her decisions once again.

King Xavier of Mattan knows their kingdoms will better off if he and Queen Leyna join forces … meaning they need to wed and produce an heir as soon as possible! When decisions made in the past continue to haunt them, will they be able to forgive each other and find the love they once held in their heart for each other as their future hangs in the balance?

A favor for a friend turns into much more in Melanie Milburne’s latest Harlequin Presents! I enjoyed discovering the sweet connection between the characters who had been friendly from afar for years. Seeing them admit to their pasts and connect over what they were starting to feel for each other was a turning point in the plot of the book. I felt like the ending was rushed, but overall it was a solid read and very enjoyable!
