“I didn’t know I was pregnant until I woke up from the accident.” Ginny’s voice was an impassioned whisper. “I found out two things that changed my life in that moment. I found out that my best friend was gone and that I was pregnant. And I prayed so hard that I hadn’t lost all of Jacob forever.”

Forever. That’s what she was looking at. She was looking at an entire lifetime of being a mother without a son. She loved her daughters dearly, but she would mourn Jacob forever. And this selfish girl was equating her pain as though they were the same. As though one night of spreading her legs gave her the right to mourn him.

“I think you woke up and realized you had two options. Take care of that baby alone or worm your way into Jacob’s family and his money.”

“I never cared about the money.”

Celeste wasn’t going to listen to that tripe. “Of course you did. Not enough to keep your legs closed. You say you loved Jacob but how long did you wait before you hopped into bed with that Murphy boy? Did you even break it off with my brother-in-law? How many men do you need on your string?”

“I’ve never slept with Logan, but I will admit that I’m in love with him. I love him in a way I never loved Jacob. Jacob was my best friend, but I know now that he wasn’t my soul mate. I pray with everything I am that this is his child, that we receive a miracle because I don’t want him to be lost forever, but I won’t hide what I feel for Logan and I won’t pretend it’s nasty. Not even to placate you, Celeste. I want to make things right between us and that means apologizing to you. Celeste, I’m so sorry I hurt you. I never meant to. I should have been braver. I should have been stronger, but I woke up and the world had crashed around me and I wanted the love you could give me. That all of you could give me. I’m sorry that it brought you so much pain.”

Something about the way she was standing there enraged Celeste. How could she stand there looking so innocent? How could she say exactly the right things to garner empathy? Celeste didn’t want to empathize. She wanted to fight and tear up things and destroy the world around her because it seemed so damn intent on destroying her. She wanted to burn it all down.

She didn’t feel her hand snap back, didn’t quite understand what she was doing. The world seemed tinged in red at the corners as though rage now filtered her vision. And it slowed everything down. In horror she realized she was going to strike Ginny Moreno. Her hand was going to bring justice her words never could.

And then it slapped against flesh. A strong hand circled her wrist and Travis stared down at her like he had no idea who she was.

This story is riddled with emotions and touches your heart many times along the way as you read it.  You feel sadness for the kids they were, sadness for their losses along the way, admiration for the lives they live, and hope for a happy future for each one.  I really fell in love with the Monroe’s and look forward to the next book!

Zach Monroe hasn’t forgiven himself for being a dumb kid and causing an accident 10+ years ago that injured one of his brothers and his friend/possibly more Sophie Allen.  When Sophie calls and asks him to come by her real estate office, he has to face her as well as the brother who he no longer can be in the same room with without a shouting match breaking out.

Sophie was best friends with their sister who died a few months ago, and is basically family after spending so much time over at their house over the years.  She’s called them all in now because she has an offer on the Civil War-era house that was part of their sister’s estate.

The brother’s will actually have to talk for a change and decide if they want to sell the property and if not, what they want to do with it.  Along the way, Sophie will make an effort to get Zach to stop ignoring her and get over the accident and forgive himself.

You can come home again .. but will it ever be the same as you remembered it?

I enjoyed this story.  The characters are fun with a lot of potential there — would have liked to have seen them decide to test their relationship waters earlier in the book.

Luci Monroe has finished up school and is coming back home to Willow Beach to be close to her family.  She’s landed a great job doing PR and is ready to start living her life.

Imagine her surprise when Cody Jarvis strolls in.  She had a huge crush on him years ago, but he just considered her a friend and the little sister of one of his high school pals.  Now they’re going to be doing some work together for the summer, and she can’t help but still feel that twinge when he’s near.

I loved my return trip to visit the Moretti family!  They are such a fun, loving group of people and they always make me smile with their crazy antics and interactions with each other.

This time we’re centering around Vincent Moretti.  He’s a tough guy cop who basically keeps to himself, rarely shares feelings or shows emotions.  He’s been partnered with Jill Henley, his fellow homicide detective, for 6 years now.  Everyone loves Jill.  She’s chipper, charming & always smiling and is an extended member of his big family and best friends with his sister Elena.  He gets pestered by his family all the time about how he should be dating her.

After facing some time without her by his side while she was on leave for a bit, he’s tending to agree with them, but doesn’t know how to be anything but his surly self.  He can’t wait for Jill to get back … but he’s taken aback to hear she’s met a guy while she was away, and it’s serious!

Will Vin get his act together in time to get his chance with Jill, or will he spend too much time second guessing it and lose her for good?

An intriguing story that portrays many emotions throughout as we go on a journey of old regrets, young dreams and what might have beens.  I’m generally not a big fan of traveling back in time in novels, but this author makes it easy to follow whether it’s present day or decades prior and the story flows well.

Anna Young is happily content with her life, running a business she enjoys and spending lots of time with her grandfather Max Albrecht, who at 94 is still sharp as a tack and the light of her life.  When a news story breaks about an apartment in Paris that was abandoned many years ago, she notices Max taking interest in it and then stewing about it for days afterward.  He finally tells her he once knew the people that lived there, and then speaks a little of his past, which he has never done in all of her years.  He tells her that she stems from an aristocratic family in East Germany who fled during the Soviet invasion and that some of those times are his biggest regret in life.  He urges her to make a trip to Berlin to attempt to retrieve a treasure he left hidden in his childhood home in old Prussia.

She finally relents and embarks on a journey to locate his house and try to figure out how to access it.  She meets up with a young man by the name of Wil along the way who helps her find the answers that she needs to reveal the past.

I really enjoyed my first trip to Cedar Ridge Lake!  I loved getting to know the Kincaids and look forward to going back and catching up on the previous two books in the series.  They are a family with plenty of drama between them and surrounding them, but with good old fashioned love for each other running deep!

Army Special Forces officer Jacob Kincaid is on leave after a tough mission in Afghanistan and has decided to return home to Colorado to reunite with his estranged family.  He’s renting a cabin on the lake, and biding his time until he meets up with his Mom and siblings, when he stumbles across a beautiful redhead using his dock.

Sophie Marren is broke, seasick and pissed off at the male species.  She has nowhere to live but this boat that she hates, but she’s determined to stand her ground and stand on her own two feet.  She and Jacob butt heads, but they also send sparks flying from their very first encounter.  As she deals with getting her life back on track, and he stumbles through making things right with his family, will they decide to find comfort in each other?
