The last Donnelly just may be down for the count! Liam has always been the hardest to read and the most standoffish, even with his family. We’ve been getting hints that something happened with Sabrina back when they were teenagers that left it a bitter subject for him, so it’s fun to finally get their story! The Copper Ridge characters are always a joy to read and the plot is always thick with family love and angst.

Sabrina Leighton has never forgiven her teenage crush Liam Donnelly for rejecting and humiliating her all those years ago when she put her heart on the line and offered herself to him. Hurt and anger has festered and even though she has told herself she despises him, she still finds herself comparing every man she meets to how he made her feel … and being let down when nothing ever comes close. She’s being forced to work with him to get a new tasting room project completed before the Christmas festivities begin, but she’s so not happy about it!

Liam Donnelly had a nightmare of a childhood and left it scarred and feeling like he wasn’t good enough for a goodhearted person like Sabrina, so when her father offered him a free ride to college just to leave his daughter alone, he took the opportunity. He went on to prosper and make a lot of money … and now is back in Copper Ridge playing his part at working the ranch with his brothers. It’s obvious every time they run into each other that the draw and attraction is still there, so eventually they agree to act on it and get it out of their systems while they are being forced to work together on this project … but when all is said and done, will either of them be able to walk away?

Slowly, numbly, she shrugged. “I knew you were dangerous and relentless in pursuing somebody,” she whispered. But a killer? Her search for him had held a romantic element, and she knew it. This guy was all edge—no romance. “Am I in danger?” Her voice quivered, but she had to know.

“I’m in danger, and anybody close to me is free game for an enemy who will keep coming until I’m dead. Until everything I care about, everything I dream about, is taken away and I want death.” He looked back down at the computer, intensity pouring from him.

Whoa. Okay. Denver didn’t have one bit of hysteria in him. His words scared her, but curiosity still rose up. “Who?”

When an embarrassing delivery mix-up has her knocking on her sexy neighbor’s door, she’s not sure this new lifestyle is starting out all that well!

Beckett Walsh is typically the gruff, serious guy down the hall … but when she finds out he has a connection she could use to give her make-up business a jump-start, she comes up with a win-win situation for the both of them! He’ll put in a good word for her with his sister who’s planning her high society wedding and in need of a make-up artist … and in return, she’ll help him figure out how to win back his fiancee before the business deal her father was financing goes belly up. A healing opportunity! If you read the previous book in this series (For Joy’s Sake), you will quickly pick up on the fact that this is a direct continuation of the on-going plot of that story. I felt like the dual plot of this book was somewhat distracting. I guess it was meant to make it a more stand-alone by letting the reader in on what had happened in the past and was on-going with additional characters than the main two of this particular romance, but I think I would have gotten more enjoyment out of it if it had just been a concentration of Simon and Cara and then in the end the reunification of the story line would have happened. None-the-less, I was happy read the completion of this mystery, and I enjoyed Simon & Cara’s relationship a lot!

Doctor Simon Walsh is on leave and staying in a deserted cabin in Nevada when he stumbles across a woman left for dead by her abuser. He manages to get her to his house and sets out to find out what happened to her and see if he can tend to her wounds enough to have her on the mend.

Cara Amos has a spotty memory but the things she is remembering from what happened to her is scaring her! She has no clue that her missing daughter is actually forging a connection with her own estranged father at The Lemonade Stand in Santa Raquel, CA. Will she be able to remember the details of her attack before danger gets to her daughter?

The conflict drug on a little and it could have done with a little more passion in their journey towards happily ever after, but it kept me wanting the rest of the story and overall was a enjoying read! Strong first showing!

They come from two different worlds, but it doesn’t take long for them both to be yearning for forever! The setting is rustic with an underlying sense of despair as an illness runs rampant through the reservation. They race against time to figure out what it is and how to help the tribe while at the same time easing into a relationship that they both realize may never be able to work out. The core characters have a steamy hot connection and their supporting cast help complete the homey feel to the cast and keep us wanting to learn more about them in the series future. I really enjoyed it!

Doctor Madeline Mitchell might not fit in on the White Sandy Reservation, but she’s determined to be the help this tribe needs in medical care. Many have come and gone before her, so people are skeptical about the new white doctor. They have more faith in their own medicine man, and he’s not one to blindly let them accept her way of medicine.

Rebel Runs Fast is keeping her on her toes for sure. He’s friendly enough and helpful when need be, but there are certain things that he makes sure his tribe refuses to let her do in treating them. He knows she doesn’t exactly believe in his ways, but they are both going to have to overcome their stubborn attitudes and work together when the mystery illness becomes more dire!

About the Author

In a quest to provide her ELA students with quality reading material, educator Karen Rock read everything out there and couldn’t wait to add her voice to the genre. In addition to her work as a Young Adult romance novelist, she’s now an author for Harlequin’s Heartwarming line and thrilled to pen stories that moms can share with their teenage daughters. Aunt Doreen takes a cake knife from the drawer, clears her throat and the two sisters squint at each other. My body tenses. This body language usually precedes some unanticipated concession by me. Busying myself by returning the coffee tin to the cabinet, I turn to escape the kitchen before…

“Cole.”

Shit. Not fast enough. “Yes, Mom.”

Mom starts, “We’ve been talking.”

I open my mouth, but Aunt Doreen jumps in before I can get anything out. “We know that you’re a grown man now, and you’re starting a high-profile career.”

“But I don’t want my son to have a bad-boy reputation,” Mom blurts out. She cups my cheek. “I didn’t raise you to be wild.”

Her sister moves in for the kill, placing her hand on my forearm for a brief moment. “Please be careful. Don’t get caught up in the lifestyle you’ll be offered.”

Mom drops her hand. “Promise me you won’t become one of those out-of-control stars we hear about on the news.”

My heart races. I need a cigarette. I’m flanked by two of the strongest women I’ve ever known, and their concern is both touching and intrusive. But it’s born from love. I glance from one pair of green eyes to the next and swallow.

Mom presses. “Promise me.”

I’m not giving up the perks of my soon-to-be-lifestyle—women and parties being at the top of the list. I’ve earned this. However, the set of their jaws tells me I’m not getting out of this kitchen without giving them my word.

“Promise,” she repeats.

I gauge the distance to the dining room. Too far. Mom crosses her arms, and Aunt Doreen follows suit.

Rubbing my hands up and down my legs, I mumble, “Okay, fine, I promise. I won’t get a bad rep.”

Dazzling smiles greet my capitulation. They pick up the dessert and dishes and leave me in the kitchen wondering how the hell I’m going to both honor and get around my vow.

Author Bio

For as long as Arell Rivers can remember, she has been lost in a book. During her senior year in college, she picked up a Danielle Steel novel … and instantly was hooked on romance.

Arell started writing her first novel because the characters were screaming at her to do so. The story started coming out in her dreams and attacking her in the shower, so she took to the computer to shut them up. But they kept talking.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Arell has what some may call a “checkered past.” Prior to discovering her passion for writing romance, she practiced law, was a wedding and event planner and even dabbled in marketing. Arell lives with a very supportive husband and two mischievous cats. When not in her writing cave, Arell is found making dinner in the crock pot, working out with Shaun T or hitting the beach.

Arell is a member of the New Jersey chapter of Romance Writers of America.
