** Book Review ** ALWAYS AND FOREVER by Soraya Lane

Always and Forever

4  1/2 STARS!

Very emotionally riveting!  A glimpse into the ups and downs of one marriage, and how they deal with the aftermath.  I wasn’t a fan of the going back in forth in time that happened throughout this book, but I did think it was a good book.

Lisa & Matt seemed to have it all.  A near perfect marriage, a happy home, and soon a family to make them complete!

When tragedy strikes and decisions have to be made, it all crumbles around them.  She wears her hurt and her grief on her sleeve, while he buries his with a smile and tries to be upbeat.  They decide a road trip is just what they need to re-connect and move forward in their love for one another, but even that isn’t simple and soon leads to more hurt and more anger.

Will this couple be able to put the pieces of their hearts back together and become people who can love each other forever again, or will the change in them be too much to withstand?

rock wedding teaser 2

Excerpt from ROCK WEDDING by
Nalini Singh:

Plowing his gloved fists into the punching bag in front of him on the morning of the fourth day, Abe blocked out the other sounds in the gym and attempted to lose himself in the rhythm of the mindless action. It worked for about a minute before his mind filled with Sarah again. Her shy smile when he gave her a compliment. The way she’d sit curled up under his arm and read to him on lazy summer days.

Hard on the heels of that memory came one of him throwing her books in the pool in a drug-fueled rage. She’d been sobbing as she tried to save them.

“Fucking bastard,” Abe muttered, talking to his past self. He punched the bag so hard that it threatened to swing back right into his face. He didn’t care. He deserved to have his face beaten in.

Ripping off his gloves afterward, he showered, then went straight to a bookshop.

It was too little too late, but now that he’d remembered his asshole behavior, he couldn’t just leave it. Ball cap pulled low, he wandered the aisles… then realized most people here didn’t care who he was; they were more interested in the volumes that lined the shelves. He spent an hour inside the murmuring quiet of the store, searching for the titles he remembered seeing on their bedside table. She’d definitely read him Jane Austen.

He couldn’t remember which one though, so he bought the entire set.

And there was this one romance novel she loved and had read over and over again. He’d teased her it would fall apart in her hands one day. She’d just smiled and read him a paragraph that she’d told him was part of her favorite scene. What the hell had it been? Yes, that was it. In the end, it turned out the store didn’t have that book in stock, so he bought her a bunch of new releases featuring people with dogs or puppies on the covers. He definitely remembered seeing covers like that in their home

After spotting it in a display, he added in a nonfiction book about a woman who’d set up her own company while nearly flat broke and who was now a millionaire. At the counter, he paid extra to have the books wrapped up and packaged.

He’d called his car service earlier; the driver shot him a funny look when he put the package in the passenger seat and gave him Sarah’s address. “I’m a courier now?” the stocky middle-aged man asked, having worked long enough for Schoolboy Choir that he was a friend. They’d all missed his calm demeanor and total trustworthiness when he broke his leg recently and had been out for a while.

“Best in the business,” Abe responded.

The other man snorted. “I’ll get it to her now.”

Blowing out a breath after the gleaming black town car pulled away, Abe went to where he’d parked his SUV and got in. He didn’t want to go home to his empty house, but he didn’t want to barge in on his friends either. David and Thea, Noah and Kit, they needed time alone. As for Molly and Fox, while the newlyweds were back home after a short wedding trip, having postponed their honeymoon until later in the year, Abe wasn’t about to bust up their love nest.

Gabriel and Charlotte probably wouldn’t have minded the company since they’d been doing the sightseeing thing, but the other couple had flown back to New Zealand twenty-four hours earlier—after inviting all of them to their own wedding.

His phone buzzed right then.

Picking it up, he saw a message from Fox. Molly and I are at that Thai place with the noodles you like. We saved you a seat if you want to join us for lunch.

Damn, he loved his bandmates. On my way, he messaged back.

Starting the engine, he tried not to obsess over if Sarah would call him after receiving his long overdue gift. Hell, he’d be content with her throwing the books at his head. All he wanted was for her to talk to him, to let him show her he wasn’t that guy anymore, the one who’d destroyed them both.

** Book Review ** REPRESSED by Elisabeth Naughton

Repressed

4 1/2 STARS!

Great story!  It’s one of those books that grabs you from the first page and keeps you guessing right up until the end to figure out who all is involved in the crime!

Hidden Falls is still the same small town Samantha Parker remembers from all those years ago.  She’s not happy to be home because of the bad memories this town holds for her, and will be leaving as soon as she can get her Mom’s house sold.  She witnessed her brother’s murder 18 years ago, and being back at the scene of the crime is bringing back too many bad memories and dreams .. dreams that almost make it seem like there’s something she’s not remembering clearly.

Ethan McClane never planned to step foot back into Hidden Falls either, but he has a patient at the local high school that needs his help.  As a child psychologist, he helps a lot of troubled teens and is doing this one as a favor for someone that helped him in the past.

As Samantha & Ethan connect through her student, they start to grow close … until danger starts rearing it’s ugly head all around her.  Unaware of a past connection, they blindly walk into a bigger mess than they were expecting when trying to decipher what’s going on around them.  When the murderer starts striking again, will they be able to make it out alive?

Sexy, hot firefighters!  In Book 2 of her Rescue Squad series, Kimberly Kincaid brings us Cole Everett’s story.  It was great to see Alex Donovan again from Book 1 and get to see him interact on the job since most of our time with him was outside of work.  Really enjoyed it!

Savannah Nelson comes from a legacy of firefighters in her family and it’s all she’s ever wanted to do with her life.  She won’t let anyone stand in her way!  She’s happily surprised that Cole is actually a good guy and willing to give her the chance she deserves to prove herself with hard work and ability.  When the flames heat up inside the house and out, will Cole & Savannah be able to hide a romance from the house?

3  STARS!

A rescue mission to help a schoolteacher survive the bounty placed on her head!  A very slow start had me unsure of this story, but eventually the action picked up and more importantly, the main couple finally made a connection with each other and made the plot thicken and more enjoyable.

CIA operative Josh Sedovich travels to Malaysia in search of a US schoolteacher who has been on the run for months after witnessing the murder of a high profile man by a gang of dangerous men.

Erin Argon is trying to stay safe and protect what’s important in her, and when she happens up on Josh as supposedly just another world traveler, she agrees to have dinner and go on tours with him here and there.  Luckily for her she does, because he’s in the right place at the right time when she needs a rescue!

4 STARS!

In the conclusion of her latest trilogy starring forensic sculptor Eve Duncan, Iris Johansen takes us on a journey of excitement and danger while still holding the quasi-family that Eve holds dear close to the heart of everything!  A little slower than the first two in the series, but satisfying none-the-less.

Eve is on a mission to keep eleven year old Cara safe from the danger that haunts her.  She’s putting herself in harms way over and over again to do so, which doesn’t sit well with her boyfriend Joe.  Will he be able to pave the way for her this time when she runs full steam ahead like she always does?

HE’D BREAK THE LAW TO GET HIS KIDS BACK

5 STARS!

My favorite one yet in the Texas Rangers: Elite Troop series by Angi Morgan!  It was filled with danger and mystery, yet had a ton of sweetness of all of these strong people trying to protect these little kids … and a little romance thrown in to boot!  Really enjoyed it.

Texas Ranger Josh Parker only has his kids left in life, so when a group of criminals want to hit him where it hurts, kidnapping his twins has definitely done it!  Josh races against danger to try to get his kids back.  With the help of their caretaker Tracey Cassidy, he is prepared to do whatever it takes … even if it means breaking the laws that he’s sworn to uphold!

Will they win the race against the clock?  And along the way, will he and Tracey have to admit how they feel about each other?
