Second Chance Family

5 STARS!

A great second chance at love story that is well written and makes you feel immersed into the story as you read along.

Travis Oak is a Phys Ed teacher at Orange Blossom Elementary and happens to be the one close by to intervene when 10 year old Josh Smith gets himself into trouble.  Travis can see that the boy has had some hard times in the last year, so he goes to bat and makes a deal with the Principal to stop him from being expelled.

Courtney Smith is at her wits end with her son’s behavior, but has a big chip on her shoulder when baseball is brought into the mix of how to help him.  She only agrees to let him work with Coach Oak in Little League because she’s given no other option.

Travis is waiting on the call to go coach for the Minor Leagues.  It’s all he’s dreamed about since an injury took away his future hope of moving up from Minors to pitch for the Majors.  Now, he’s seeing that living the life he’s living isn’t half bad.  Will he decide to settle down and stay put … especially when he and Courtney start to show interest in each other?  And will Courtney be able to look past Travis’ dream and trust him or will she continue to let her past betrayals by her Major League former husband taint her?

Dirty English

5 STARS!

A hot fighter … a damaged girl … lust at first site!  I didn’t want to put the book down, and once I got to the end, I still wanted more.  I adored Elizabeth & Declan!  A broken bird who hides away from human contact on a regular basis, lets in the British badass who should scare her just by the sight of his muscled, tattooed body.

Elizabeth Bennett is moving into an off-campus apartment as she is just about to start her Junior year at college.  She has her two best friends from high school that she interacts with a lot, but other than that, she goes to class, studies hard, works part time at the bookstore, and comes home.  She is haunted by her past, and wants her future to be laid out in her terms.  She chooses what she does, who she talks to, how she does it, and when she walks away.

Declan Blay has just moved in across the hall from her.  Originally from London, he & his brother moved to live with the father they barely knew in their pre-teen years.  Declan is ready to finish up his Senior year and get on with his life so he can stop hearing his father try to tell him what to do.

One night of unbridled passion.

There are three things you need to know about Elizabeth Bennett: she’s smart as a whip, always in control, and lives by a set of carefully crafted rules. She’s learned the hard way that people you love the most always hurt you in the end.

But then she meets Declan Blay, the new neighbor at her apartment complex.

A tattooed British street fighter, he’s the campus bad boy she’s supposed to avoid, but when he saves her from a frat party gone bad, all her rules about sex and love fly out the window.

She gives him one night of unbridled passion, but he longs for more.

With only a cardboard-thin wall separating their bedrooms, he dreams of possessing the vulnerable girl next door forever.

One night. Two damaged hearts. The passion of a lifetime.

Excerpt of DIRTY ENGLISH

“Come to my apartment and spend the night with me.” I touched his face, my fingers stroking the softness of his sensuous lips. “Just one night and we can make this shitty world disappear.”

He exhaled. “A one-night stand?”

“Yeah.”

He cupped my chin. “Someone hurt you, didn’t they?”

My lips tightened. No one at Whitman knew about Colby except for Shelley and Blake, and I sure as hell wasn’t telling him. He’d judge me like everyone else had in Petal, North Carolina. “That’s none of your business.”

“I see.” His eyes searched mine until I felt like a bug under a microscope. “What if I wanted more than just one night?”

“Then your hands can let go of my hips now.”

He removed his hands slowly, the tips of his fingers grazing mine. “This may surprise you, but I don’t sleep with every girl I kiss.”

I’d been rejected. Again. “Blake said you got around, that you used—”

“And you believed him?” His voice was incredulous. “Dude is in love with you and he saw exactly how we looked at each other tonight—”

“Looked at each other? What are you talking about? You refused to dance with me and then you ran off with your girlfriend. Not to mention I just kissed you and you didn’t even care.” I threw my hands up.

“I wanted to fuck you the minute you walked in that party,” he snapped.

“Then why don’t you,” I bit out, tossing back my shoulders.

“You think you want me?” he said tightly. “You can’t handle me, Elizabeth. I can see it in your eyes. You’re scared of something, maybe not me, but something.”

My eyes went to his black eye.

He let out a harsh laugh. “Ah, that’s what you’re afraid of. You want the real truth? You told me tonight you didn’t like violence, but I’m an arsehole who uses his fists. That’s who I am.”

“What do you mean?”

His gaze was intense, dark and low, his face struggling as he fought to find the right words. “I’m in a fight club for money. I show up at warehouses and fight other blokes. Sometimes I beat them so bad they need medical attention. A few times, I’ve been beat to unconsciousness. I’m everything you need to stay away from.”

I inhaled, anger and lust and excitement all riding me. Anger that he was pushing me away, lust for the alpha male in him, and God help me, the fighting thing repelled me and excited me at the same time. “I don’t want to stay away from you. I want you to fuck me and stop making excuses for why you can’t.”

My words seemed to snap his taut restraint.

He pulled me back in his arms, his lips fusing with mine unerringly. His tongue plundered me in a sensual way my body had craved for years. I wrapped my arms around his neck, my anger morphing into all-out desire as he turned us and pressed me against the wall.

Yes, yes, this is what I craved.

A passion to remind me that I was real, not just some sad excuse of a girl who chose to exist on scraps of love.

Before I knew it, he’d shoved my robe off, his hands sculpting my shoulders, massaging them as he ravaged my mouth. I reveled in the warmth of his hand on my neck as his mouth skated down, kissing the hollows of my throat, sucking on my collarbone.

“Like this?” he asked, his voice dark and gravelly. “You want me to take you up against this wall?”

“Yes,” I moaned. Gone. Past caring as long as he kept his hands on me.

Out of control, my brain whispered, but I beat back the dark warnings as his warm hand found my breast and squeezed, his fingers rolling my nipple between his thumb and forefinger.

I gasped in pleasure and arched my back to get closer to his body, ignoring the fear that pricked at the surface.

The rules girl in my head stamped her foot and yelled at me. I ignored her.

But even if I wanted to stop right now, I couldn’t. My tongue tangled wildly with his, my hands pulled at his hair, spurring him on, his hand palming my breast and then tugging. Sharp sensations of need went straight to my core.

“Is this what you want? Something quick where we just take what we want and forget each other the next day?”

No. Not that. Not like the way he said it, like it was something dirty.

“Yes, like that,” I whispered against his shoulder, my mouth on his skin, tasting him as my teeth bit down.

BOOK REVIEW – Want – Emma Rider

Want

4 STARS!

Hot MMA Fighter … need I say more? 🙂  Yes, this book is intense, sexy and a knock out of a read!  I got a chuckle out of the premise of the book, but the characters drew me in and I ended up liking them and cheering them on along the way.

Jade Andrews is a Professional Cuddler.  It’s not what she went to college for, but it’s what’s paying the bills at a time when no one else will hire her.  She’s been lied to, cheated, and taken for quite a ride over the last couple of years and for once she just needs thing to go right for a change.

Ryland Cole is a champion MMA Fighter, known as “The Savage”.  He’s a tough guy … and if he sees something he wants, he gets it.  When he sees Jade, he instantly wants to claim her for his own, so he sets plans into motion to do that.

Jade’s friend is in trouble, and she needs money to help him get out of it.  The only big offer of money she’s had lately was from Ryland, to accompany him on his fight tour.  She turned him down, but now has no other option than to warm his bed every night for the next few months if she wants to help her friend Gus.

BOOK REVIEW – A Friendly Arrangement – Christine Warner

A Friendly Arrangement

5 STARS!

It’s fun, it’s flirty, it’s hot … I loved it!

Once in awhile you read a book and instantly connect with the characters.  This was one of those for me.  From the minute I was introduced to Holly and Roth, I loved them.  They have a fun relationship that has you grinning as you read them give each other a hard time, and they are both just very relatable.  I could imagine being friends with both of them! 🙂

Holly Haggerty and Roth Esterly live across the hall from each other and are the best of buds.  They are alike in their thinking about life and just get each other.  Neither wants to ever have a serious relationship or a family.

Holly comes from a close knit family.  Really too close for her liking.  She adores her twin sister and two brothers as well as her parents and Gram, but they all just love to smother her with advice about finding a husband, having a family, and most often about working a more reliable job instead of her own business.

Roth is somewhat close with his younger brother and Mom, but very estranged from his older brother and his Dad before his death.  He’s single and loving it, but so tired of friends constantly trying to set him up with someone.

They come up with a plan to be each other’s “Plus One” when they have an event or function to go to.  Their friends will stop fixing them up because they will think they are already dating.  It’s perfect!  Until they start feeling super attracted to each other and decide to have a little fun one night.  No problem, they just decide they’ll tweak their agreement and become Plus One’s with benefits.

When they each start to realize they are having feelings for each other, will they decide to actually be in a relationship?  And when an unexpected complication is thrown into the mix, will they support each other through it, or will it be the end of their agreement … and maybe even their friendship?

BLOG TOUR FINALE – If Not for a Bee – Carol Ross

Grand Finale for
If Not for a Bee
By Carol Ross

Launch – Interview

What do you hope readers take with them after they’ve read it?

We all wrestle with challenges of one kind or another. Aidan, Janie and her boys, Gareth and Reagan all struggle with adversity in some form. I think it’s important to face your fears, fight them, smother them, whatever it takes. There is a way to figure out how to work through them. I hope that If Not for a Bee shows how even the most seemingly impossible obstacle can be scaled.

Katie’s Clean Book Collection – How it All Came to Bee

In my mind, Shay James, heroine from A Case for Forgiveness (book #2), was already telling me her story so I wrote that one first. Janie also happens to be Shay’s cousin and best friend and plays a small part in that story, too. So by the time I started writing If Not for a Bee much of it was already buzzing around (sorry, I just can’t seem to stop the bee puns) in my head. I think this is largely because Janie’s character was already so well-formed she was like a real person to me. Like a sister. Still, I was surprised at how this book flowed like nothing I’ve ever written before. Not so surprising was the fact that Janie turned out to be a lot like my sister; a woman whose devotion to those she loves does the words “mother,” “daughter,” and “sister” proud.

Zerina Blossom’s Books – Ten Books that Hooked Me by the First Page and Never (Ever) Let Go

I’ve heard time again over the years that in order to be an effective writer you must also be a reader. I always thought, well, good at least I’ve got part of it down. Now that I am an author, I truly see the importance. And, like most authors I know, I never seem to have enough time to read. So I make time—I ruthlessly carve out time. I will sacrifice sleep, outings with friends, housework (is that a sacrifice?) meals (okay, maybe not meals). But you get my meaning. I love to read. And I love to talk about books.

“If you enjoy heartwarming stories about family, overcoming loss and learning to live again, this one is not to be missed!”

The Power of Words – Review

“There’s a surprising amount of character depth in this story, which added richness to the narrative – and we also learn about bees through Aidan’s native-bee-population study. All of the main characters faced adversity in some form, physical or emotional, and this is something to which any reader can relate. . . . If Not for a Bee is a very satisfying romance and I look forward to more from Carol Ross. Recommended.”

“You will love the way the story unfolds and how sweet the story and characters are. I will probably go back to read the other two though I already know who ends up with whom. 🙂 It’s all good. If you need a quick, cute romance, check this one out!”

underneath the covers – Dating in the Extreme – Rankins Style

With its rugged countryside and dramatic seasonal changes, dating in Alaska can present some interesting challenges, or unique opportunities, depending on your point of view. Each book in my Seasons of Alaska series highlights some of these circumstances.

Teatime and Books – Promo

Letters from Annie (Douglass) Lima – What’s Your Bee Story?

There are certain critters that in spite of their diminutive stature, never fail to strike fear in the hearts of even the bravest among us – snakes, spiders, rats, bats. I’ve even seen people get the

heebie-jeebies over cockroaches and ants. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything that induces sheer terror quite the way a bee does.

deal sharing aunt – Interview

5. What do you think makes a good story?

Characters. Not surprisingly, I tend to fall in love with characters (my own and those from my favorite books). My favorite characters are relatable ones, flawed people with good hearts who want to do the right things.

“Readers will love the easily relatable characters and touching and uplifting story of overcoming hard things in life and learning to love and forgive. The third installment of the Seasons of Alaska series will not disappoint readers. In fact,If Not for a Bee is the type of book readers will want to curl up and read over and over again.”

Singing Librarian Books – Interview

3. What writing projects are you currently working on? What can you tell us about these projects?

I just finished a Thanksgiving short story for Harlequin that will be available as a free read some time in November. The story is set in Rankins, but with some never-before-seen characters that I love. Oh, and a dog! Book four in the Seasons of Alaska series, A Family Like Hannah’s is finished and will be out February 1st. I’m hoping that readers will be excited to learn that Hannah, Shay’s sister in A Case for Forgiveness is getting her own story. Excited to be working on a proposal now for some new Heartwarming books.

Chill Reviews – Review

“Janie learned to see beyond their pain and see that sometimes an outsider can see things that you can’t when you’re in the thick of things. I think you all would enjoy this feel good romance. It is a part of a series but I did not feel like I was missing anything.”

Wishful Endings – Ten Things I’ve Learned (and Love) About Alaska

“Have you ever lived in Alaska?”After writing four books and a short story for the Seasons of Alaska series this is a question I’ve heard often. As well as, “I want to live in Rankins.” Both make my heart soar with joy. Because to me this means I’m getting certain things right. Important things. All of the Seasons of Alaska stories are set in the remote town of Rankins. And while the town might be fictional, I’ve done my best to keep the essence of Alaska accurate.

BOOK REVIEW – Damage Control – Jess Anastasi

Damage Control

5 STARS!

I’m not generally much into sci-fi, but the description hooked me, so I gave it a try.  I must admit, I really enjoyed it!  I didn’t wind up putting it down until 4AM when I turned the final page.  Lots of intrigue & action with some hot sex thrown in to boot!

Leigh Alphin is the Captain of the Fighter Force of the battleship Valient Knox.  He’s worked hard to achieve all that he has and is considered a legend to new recruits.  When the enemy opens fire on an unarmed transport bringing in the new recruits, he rushes to help and risks himself to get the people on board rescued.  In the smoke filled transport, he stumbles across Recruit Mia Wolfe who is trying to get help for her unconscious friend Penny.  Leigh helps them get out and to the medical team.

After the chaos is all handled and calmness has restored, Leigh finds himself heading to the med level to check on how the recruits are doing … especially Mia.  They share a moment when he goes to her exam area, and he lets his guard down as he comforts her.  The next day, he discovers Mia has been assigned to his unit and he’s not happy about the close moment they had shared the day before, or about the attraction he feels pulling him to her every time he sees her.

Mia and her hacking ability ends up helping Leigh a great deal to try to track down who in his unit and on board the battleship is working for the enemy.  Their time together brings them closer and closer and they eventually give in to the passion that they can’t get off their minds when they are around each other.  Will their secret get out and cost him his job?  Will she be thrown out of the program?  And when danger strikes, will they be able to track down the enemy fast enough to keep everyone safe?

BOOK REVIEW – Protecting the Dream – Michelle Sharp

Protecting the Dream

4 STARS!

This novella length continuation of Jordan and Ty’s story does not have as much intrigue as the previous book, Dream Huntress did, but it’s a sweet story about them continuing their life together after the big drug investigation is over.  I still really enjoyed these characters, and liked seeing them push each others buttons, then fight and make-up.

Ty is supposed to be taking the hints Jordan dropped and whisking her away to a beach somewhere for their 2 week vacation together.  Instead, he blind folds her and takes her to a rundown estate that he’s loved since he was a kid.  He wants to buy it, renovate it and move in together.

Jordan knows she loves Ty, and she’s sharing more of herself with him than she ever has anyone in her life, but she’s terrified of taking that step.  When she starts seeing the spirit of the previous owners, will that intrigue her to want to take the chance on moving forward with Ty, or will she be scared even further away?
