BOOK REVIEW – Killer Season – Lara Lacombe

Killer Season

5 STARS!

Loved these characters!  He’s a nice guy looking to take care of her when she’s scared and upset.  She’s a goodhearted person, alone in the world and comforted by his arms.  Fast paced, full of action and suspense.  A really good read!

Fiona Sanders has been working nights as a convenience store clerk for a few years now.  She likes interacting with people that she can interview for her Sociology project in college.  And the recent added bonus of “Hot Guy” dropping in regularly is definitely a plus!

Nate Gallagher, Houston PD Detective, stops by the store regularly to get food and drinks as he’s out and about working all hours of the day.  Luckily for Fiona, even though she doesn’t know he’s a cop, he’s in the store when he hears someone demanding money.  He sneaks up behind the robber as Fiona is gathering the money from the register into a bag.  Nate takes her under his wing throughout the night and helps her through giving her statement and getting her settled after her trauma.

When she’s in trouble again, she runs straight to Nate.  Something fishy is going on and with the help of Nate’s partner Owen, they are determined to find out who is targeting her and why!  Will they give in to their attraction for each other while spending so much time together?

BOOK REVIEW – A Moment of Weakness – Brooklyn Skye

A Moment of Weakness

4 STARS!

This isn’t a super complex book/plot to read.  It’s straightforward, sexy hot and fun!  Micah is a big tough badass, but I adored him from the start.  There was just something about the tough demeanor one second, then soft as a marshmallow as soon his daughter walked through the door that really stole my heart.

Laurel Harris was an up and coming brand new elementary school teacher, but needed a job over the summer to pay her rent.  She was applying everywhere, but no one was looking for such a short term hire.  Her best friend April piped in saying her older brother Micah needed a nanny for his little girl, Shaelynn.

Micah Crane thinks April is sending a friend to interview for a job at The Alibi, the bar he co-owns with his best friend Ryan. When Laurel shows up saying she’s there for a nanny position, he’s really pissed off.  He doesn’t leave his daughter with strangers and doesn’t need any help raising her!  Once Laurel points out how dangerous it is to have her sitting in the back room of the bar for hours on end while he works, he relents and agrees to give it a try.

Shaelynn is adorable and Laurel loves her on the spot, but Micah is mean and downright rude, but when he lets his guard down and shows his tender heart, Laurel can’t help but fall for him.  He’s hot!  Will they act on the mutual attraction that is swirling around them every time they are in the same room together?  When Laurel finds out that he works part time as a glorified repo-man for a notorious crime boss, will she stick around even though she could be in danger?

BOOK REVIEW – Tempting the New Boss – Angela Claire

Tempting the New Boss

4 STARS!

The time span of this book is small, as most of it revolves around a couple of days time, but it’s exciting!  Lots of steamy sex, and moments to pull at your heartstrings.  Socially awkward as he is, I really enjoyed Mason!

Camilla Anderson has just lost her job when she hears about one opening up to be the in-house lawyer for Talbot Inc. Even though she’s warned off by the previous lawyer that is quitting, she takes the position anyway because the pay will allow her to pay off her student debt quickly.

Mason Talbot is the quirky, reclusive CEO of Talbot Inc.  He’s achieved a lot to be as young as he is, but he doesn’t enjoy interacting with people much.  He has a strong attraction to Camilla when they are traveling to London for meetings, and decides to act on it and put his cards out on the table to her … very awkwardly!  She doesn’t know whether to spend her time yelling at him or kissing him, because she’s attracted to him too, but his lack of a filter in what he says infuriates her.

When their plane runs into the path of a strong storm, they are suddenly in for a rough ride.  Mason is a calm rock of strength and comforts Camilla as things are thrown from one side to the other throughout the cabin.  Will they make it through this storm or will they be crash landing?

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

“Don’t make that face around me. People will think I died,” Neve said, her beautiful green eyes opened slightly, her voice scratchy, little more than a whisper. She winced when she swallowed. “Water.”
He lifted the cup from her bedside table, elevated the head of her hospital bed, and guided the straw to her mouth. So many of his friends had died, but not Neve, thank God. “Nate ran out for coffee.”
“What day is it?” she asked, her voice a little stronger.
“Monday.”
She went to move her arm with the IV in it and winced. Then she lifted her other hand and rubbed her face. “I’ve been out of it for two whole days.”
Rory nodded. “Pretty much.”
As if just realizing something, she went still, then looked up at him with a questioning look: “Why are you still here?”
Because Neve had become such an integral part of his life, during such a difficult time in his life, and he didn’t want to lose her over some misunderstanding. She’d become his best female friend. He appreciated her perspective on things, valued her opinion, and enjoyed their interactions, especially the very intimate sharing of naughty letters and sexual likes and dislikes. He could talk to her about anything. And as much as he didn’t want to lose a friendship that had become very special to him, he also wanted more of what had happened between them in the storeroom of his parents’ pub. And he couldn’t stop thinking about it, couldn’t stop thinking about her.
They needed time to talk so they could move past Mary, who was not now and had never been his fiancée, so they could figure out what happened next, where they fit into each other’s lives now that he’d returned home for good. And they couldn’t very well work all that out until she woke up.
But he didn’t tell her any of those things. Instead he decided he’d much rather get a rise out of her, spark some life back into her, so he leaned in close, stared directly into her sleepy eyes, and whispered back, “You promised next time I could have you naked in a bed and take all the time I want.” He leaned in closer, almost to her ear, hating the stink of bleached hospital sheets and sickness, wishing she smelled of the enticing perfume she’d used to scent her erotically charged letters. “And here you are, in a bed, wearing nothing but a flimsy gown, which is close enough to naked for me. Now that you’re up, whaddya say we get to it?”
“Really, Rory.” She let out an annoyed huff. “Propositioning a woman in the hospital, hoping she’s so delirious with fever she’ll agree to have sex with you, is the sign of a truly pathetic, desperate man.”
Not just any woman. He turned his head so she wouldn’t see his smile, so happy to have her back. “I can wait until your fever comes down.” He pulled over the chair he’d been sitting in, lowered himself into it, and put his feet up on the foot of her bed. “It’s the gentlemanly thing to do. Besides, I’m in no rush.”

BLOG TOUR – BOOK REVIEW/GIVEAWAY – When the Right One Comes Along – Kate James

When the Right One Comes Along

5 STARS!

Great characters!  I really enjoyed meeting Cal & Scout and can’t wait for the future stories about their K-9 teammates!

Calen Palmer is new to the San Diego K-9 Search and Rescue team when the city is surprisingly hit by a strong earthquake.  It’s Cal & his partner K-9 Scout’s job to get out there and search for trapped victims.  They are searching a partially collapsed office building when Scout alerts on a pile of rubble.  After some dangerous maneuvering, they rescue 5 year old Kayla from a hallway, where unfortunately her Mom died instantly.

Jessica Hansen is the trauma surgeon doing triage at the command center set up for the rescues.  She sends Kayla to be admitted for observation, and Cal has a fairly severe leg injury that requires him to be in the hospital for several days as well.  Cal and Jessica bond over his dog Scout because she ends up helping him out with him while he’s being transported in the ambulance, then again later when he can’t handle taking care of him the first couple of weeks out of the hospital.  Even thought they are both a bit gun-shy because of personal things that have happened to them in recent years, they decide to date casually.

Past drama leaves them both leary of this relationship they are stepping into, and they hit several roadblocks along the way.  Will they be able to overcome their issues and find happiness or will they go their separate ways?

BOOK REVIEW – Crosswinds – Elisabeth Naughton – Rising Storm, Episode 3

Crosswinds

5 STARS!

Best one yet!  I wanted this one to be longer because it was just getting good!

This episode centered mostly around the younger crowd.  Luis, Mallory, Lacey & Jeffry hanging out at Luis’s house and around town.  Lacey is spiraling out of control because she misses her brother Jacob, and her Mom is too busy fawning over Ginny during the times that she’s not floundering herself, and her Dad is not even around anymore.  She decides she wants Luis, and even though he’s dating her supposed best friend Mallory, she starts flirting hot and heavy and putting the moves on him.

Jeffry is working part time at the newspaper and finds out from Mallory that his Dad supposedly hit on her sister Dakota last year.  He doesn’t believe it, and warns Dakota to stay away from his family.

Ginny is upset after Lacey goes off on her about Jacob and walks to the park to calm down and sees that Logan Murphy is home from Afghanistan a week earlier than his family said he was going to be, and that he’s acting strange.

Can’t wait to find out more!
