** Blog Tour / Book Review ** INTO THE FIRE by Meredith Wild

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000032_00038]

4 1/2 STARS!

Book 2 in The Bridge series really got under my skin!  I liked Cam’s story in the first book, but I just had trouble connecting with Maya.  In this book, it was totally different.  Vanessa was a joy to let in and I really enjoyed watching her find the strength to take a chance on Darren!  I’m not a huge fan of uppity Bridge sibling Olivia, but I hope to see a hunky man make her find that heart inside her chest in the final book in the series, coming later this year!

Hunky firefighter Darren Bridge loves life!  He loves his job, and in his down time, he loves hooking up with the flavor of the night, often someone he’s training at his brother’s gym!  He’s out at a bar with his buddy Ian one night and runs into Vanessa.  He had spent an evening with her months ago when they were out with Cam & Maya, but Cam made him promise not to put the moves on her, so the night ended innocently.  He hasn’t forgotten her, and now that she’s in front of him again, he can’t take his eyes off of her!

Vanessa Hawkins works super hard and when she finally gets to leave the office, she’s ready to have a good time!  She can’t deny the sparks that fly when she runs into Darren again, but it’s not long before he’s got another chick hanging onto his every word, so she heads out.  She’s maid-of-honor at her BFF Maya’s destination wedding to Cam, so she’s ready to hit the road for a much needed break!

Darren uses his charm to finagle some time with Vanessa and convinces her to give him a chance while they are on the island.  When they return to real life, will they be able to over come the obstacles from both of their lives to actually enjoy a relationship together?

The Bridge Series follows Cameron, Darren, and Olivia Bridge, three siblings living in New York City. Desperate to break away from the crushing expectations of their wealthy and privileged and equally broken family, they carve out a new path together. But can they find real love along the way?

Each book follows a different sibling’s journey and can be read as a standalone.

Darren Bridge is living a bachelor’s dream. When he’s not running into burning buildings with his crew, he’s training the flavor of the week at his brother’s gym. Few women have ever been off limits…until Vanessa. Smart, beautiful, and legs for days, she’s unlike anyone he’s ever met. Too bad he’s sworn to leave her alone.

Overworked with no end in sight, Vanessa Hawkins hasn’t had a vacation in nearly two years. When Cameron and Maya’s destination wedding takes her out of the office for a much-needed break, she finds herself struggling to resist her attraction to the best man. Darren is dangerously good-looking with enough charm to make any hot-blooded woman want to drop her panties and enjoy the ride, no matter how long it lasts.

When they return to the city, Darren realizes the single life has lost its glimmer. But with everything else on her plate, Vanessa doesn’t have room in her life for a man, let alone a player. Can Darren find his way into her heart and convince her that he’s worth the risk?

** Book Review ** APB: BABY by Julie Miller

4 1/2 STARS!

As the first book of an exciting new series by author Julie Miller, APB: BABY knocked it out of the park!  The first scene is a happy family scene, and then terror strikes!  When another mystery is introduced shortly after, we know we are in for an all out nail biter!  I really enjoyed the depth of the characters and the great family backdrop … the only thing I would have loved to see just a little more of, was romance between the main characters.  I’m looking forward to Book 2 in the The Precinct: Bachelors in Blue series!

Kansas City Medical Examiner Niall Watson is emotionally watching his little sister marry her soulmate one minute, then the next there’s a shooting taking place!  He arrives home exhausted after hours of stress to find an abandoned baby screaming his head off at his neighbor’s apartment.

Social worker Lucy McKane has had a crush on her neighbor Niall for ages, but he’s one of these nerdy scientist types that is oblivious to people around him, so she doesn’t think he hardly even knows she’s alive, much less that she likes him.  When she arrives home and he tells her about the baby he found at her house, they set out to find out who he belongs to and how to keep him safe when danger seems to find her everywhere she goes!

** Blog Tour / Book Review ** HANGING BY A THREAD by Jenna Sutton

I have loved all of the Riley O’Brien & Company books that I have read, but this one was the best yet!  There’s just something about these two that ingrain themselves into your heart from the moment you see their interaction on the first page, even if you haven’t read any of the previous books with them playing small parts in them.  What a great family behind this series!

We met Bebe Banerjee in Teagan’s story as her quirky best friend.  She’s a super smart, fun loving friend … who happens to be withering away because she’s still a virgin at 30!  She’s determined to have her fun and live it up while she’s trying to get rid of the arranged marriage plans her family made for her years ago.  Imagine her surprise when the man she’s been crushing on for years steps in and offers to be her first!

Cal O’Brien is Teagan’s brother and the man Bebe has been sparring with for years!  They act like they hate each other, but little does anyone know, it’s all a cover.  She is trying to not let him see how much she likes him, and he’s feeding off of her attitude and returning the animosity!  She’s wanted him for years, and now he’s offering himself up on a silver platter!

When they let their guard down and start spending time together, they have a blast and really enjoy each other.  As they fall deeper and don’t want their time to end, will news of her secret engagement ruin everything?

Chaste. Untouched. Maiden. Pure. Innocent. The words that described a virgin might sound pretty, but the truth was downright ugly, at least in Bebe Banerjee’s opinion. She was convinced her virginity was the reason her heart raced, her breath seized, and her palms sweated whenever she was near Cal O’Brien.

Bebe surreptitiously studied Cal, trying to ignore the wave of lust that surged over her. If she’d had some experience between the sheets, she was sure she’d be able to handle the way he made her feel.

If she had gotten naked with a few guys, maybe she wouldn’t obsess about his glacier-blue eyes and his thick, dark hair. Maybe she wouldn’t notice the way his jeans clung to his tight behind and long legs. Maybe she wouldn’t fantasize about his lips, his smile, his big hands . . .

Bebe desperately wished she could just avoid him, but his little sister, Teagan, was her best friend. If she wanted to spend time with Teagan, she had to put up with Cal. She said no to a lot of Teagan’s invitations to hang out because of him, and she had to be very careful not to offend her best friend.

That was why the object of her X-rated fantasies stood next to her in a club-level suite at PacBell Park. The San Francisco Giants were in the playoffs, battling against the Atlanta Braves to win the National League pennant, and Teagan had invited her to attend the game in the Riley O’Brien & Co. suite.

Founded by Teagan’s great-great-grandfather, Riley O’Brien & Co. was the nation’s oldest designer and manufacturer of blue jeans. Americans had worn Rileys for nearly two centuries. In fact, Bebe was wearing a pair right now.

Teagan and her brothers were involved in the day-to-day operations of Riley O’Brien & Co. She managed the company’s law department, while her oldest brother, Quinn, served as president and CEO, and Cal handled global marketing and communications. Even Quinn’s wife, Amelia, was involved in the company, heading up the women’s division.

Beside her, Cal shifted slightly and took a pull on his Shiner Bock. He was close enough to touch, and she clenched her hands into fists just in case her fingers suddenly decided to act out her secret fantasies. He didn’t even look her way, and he probably wouldn’t unless he felt the need to toss an insult at her.

“How was Antigua?” Cal asked, directing the question to his sister and her new husband, Nick Priest.

“It was the most amazing place I’ve ever been,” Teagan said, her blue eyes shining and her glossy lips turned up in a smile.

Teagan and Nick had just returned from their three-week honeymoon to the Caribbean island. Both of them were glowing from their tans and their newlywed status.

“We were lucky we had our own private beach because Nick is apparently an exhibitionist,” Teagan added with a lustful gleam in her eyes.

Nick was a former professional football player, and he had been voted as one of the “Sexiest Men Alive” by People magazine. With his blond hair and bright green eyes, he was gorgeous, no doubt about it. But in Bebe’s opinion, he wasn’t nearly as gorgeous as Cal.

No one is as gorgeous as Cal.

Nick leaned down and whispered something into Teagan’s ear, something that was obviously naughty because her face turned the color of cherries. When he straightened to his full six-five and saw her red cheeks, he chuckled.

“You’re so bad,” Teagan muttered, lightly slapping Nick’s chest. In response, he grabbed her hand, hauled her up against him, and kissed her . . . with tongue.

Cal made a gagging noise. “Jesus Christ,” he groaned, “do you have to do that in front of me?”

Teagan pulled away from Nick. “Please,” she shot back, her voice full of disgust. “Do know how many times I had to listen to my high school friends talk about you and your big—”

Much to Bebe’s disappointment, Cal covered his sister’s mouth with his hand and cut off the rest of Teagan’s sentence. She tried to pull his fingers away, and finally she got free by elbowing him in the stomach.

Laughing, Cal stumbled sideways into Bebe, almost knocking her over. He grabbed her forearm to steady her, his hand hot against her skin, and she gasped. Even the slightest touch from him made her pulse pound, and she tugged her arm to get away from him.

Instead of releasing her, his fingers tightened. She looked up . . . way up. He was almost as tall as Nick, and he loomed over her by more than a foot. He was a little leaner than Teagan’s husband but still solid muscle. His faded Giants T-shirt showed off his broad shoulders, impressive biceps, and ropy forearms. He’d paired the shirt with ancient Rileys that fit him like a glove and well-worn boots.

“Sorry about that, Cookie,” Cal apologized offhandedly.

“I told you not to call me that,” she snapped, trying to jerk her arm free.

She hated it when he called her Cookie, and he knew it. Of course, that was why he did it.

He had come up with the nickname right after he’d found out she had a medical degree in addition to her MBA and law degree. He’d claimed it was a better moniker than Bebe since she was such a smart cookie, but she knew it wasn’t a compliment.

“I thought you liked nicknames.” He smiled angelically and widened his eyes to look innocent. “You call Teagan kanya all the time.”

Kanya was Bebe’s nickname for her best friend. It meant “girl” in Hindi, the native language of her Indian ancestors. She had been born and raised in the United States, but using Hindi words was one way she stayed connected to her heritage.

“Teagan and I are friends,” she pointed out.

He got her message loud and clear because his eyes got all squinty. “I can be friendly.”

Yes, he could be friendly. In fact, he was friendly to everyone but her. He never had anything nice to say to her, and she returned the sentiment.

She wasn’t sure who had struck first, probably her, but now they launched verbal missiles at each other with frequency and precision. He went out of his way to be rude and antagonistic, and she did the same.

Bebe knew the real reason she acted like such a bitch around Cal. She liked him, and she didn’t want him to suspect how she really felt. She didn’t want to be the pathetic geeky girl with a crush on the hot guy.

Before Cal, she had never been attracted to any man. She’d never even experienced a high school crush because she had entered the ninth grade when she was twelve and had graduated when she was fifteen. She had immediately headed off to college, and she’d obtained two bachelor’s degrees in three years.

By the time she had been able to vote, she had been in her first year of medical school. She’d become accustomed to being viewed as a study partner rather than a sex partner.

She wasn’t oblivious, though, and over the years, she had noticed good-looking men. But she had never felt that zing of sexual attraction until she had met Cal four years ago. She hated the way he made her feel: gauche, nervous, and overstimulated. When he was near, sounds were louder, colors were brighter, and smells were stronger.

Right now, she could smell him, a panty-soaking aroma of warm male and expensive cologne. It was so delicious, she could barely concentrate on the conversation swirling around her.

“Even though Antigua was amazing, I’m glad to be home,” Teagan said, ignoring Cal and Bebe’s sniping. “I missed everyone. Mom and Dad. Quinn and Amelia. Bebe. Letty.”

“You didn’t miss me?” Cal asked, feigning hurt feelings.

Bebe knew Teagan had intentionally excluded Cal, trying to annoy him. The O’Brien siblings teased one another mercilessly. Their relationship was so different from the one Bebe had with her older brothers.

She rarely talked with Pritam and Ranjit, and when she did, they definitely didn’t tease her. They didn’t even call her Bebe. They insisted on referring to her by her full name, Bindu, which she hated.

“No. I missed Kim more than I missed you,” Teagan replied, referring to the woman who did her nails at the swanky spa she frequented.

Teagan’s snarky response made laughter well in Bebe’s throat. Before she could choke them back, giggles escaped her. Cal stiffened next to her, and she mentally prepared for their next verbal battle.

Ready. Aim. Fire.

An emotionally wrenching book!  There’s a backstory of unforgotten love that is reintroducing into the present again, but there’s so much more going on in addition.  She’s a broken person who tries to piece herself back together little by little by blindly stumbling through life and using alcohol to numb the despair to a point that she can shove herself through it.  On one hand you feel really sorry for her, and on the other hand you are cringing at every turn when she’s pushing him away and wishing you could scream at her to stop derailing her chance at a happily ever after!  I enjoyed the book, but I also felt angry at her a good bit … she’s definitely hard to love!

Maya Jacobs regrets the decision she made 5 years ago with every bone in her body, and she became a shell of herself because of her hatred for herself and her heartache at what she threw away.  She numbs herself my partying long and hard just to make it through life and through the stress of her emotionally draining job.  When the past walks in front of her one day, she doesn’t know how to deal with it!

Cameron Bridge has spent the last 5 years living for the Army and putting himself out there as much as possible to try to forget what could have been.  He has finally come back from overseas and settled into life in New York City and thinks he’s fairly happy … until his sister runs into Maya and tells him she saw her.  He tries to pretend it doesn’t mean anything to him, but he can’t resist going to see her for himself.

Can there ever be a way to go back?  They’ve spent 5 years going through the misery they felt over losing the other one, and soon after spending time together now, have to admit they never stopped loving each other.  They are both different people, but especially Maya.  Can they find their way back to what they were and have that future together in the end?

About the books in the HEARTBREAKERS AND HEROES Box Set

HIDING WITH THE HEARTBREAKER by USA Today bestseller Virginia Nelson

Rule: Protect the innocent.

Making people laugh for a living is easy, but when a beautiful stranger needs Aloysius Sutton’s help, he has to find a way to become Jude’s hero.

He would swear he didn’t think about kissing her before he did it. One second, he reveled in the way the light glinted off her eyes, the next he took her lips with his own. He might have been able to pull back, too, if she hadn’t released this delicious little moan from the back of her throat. The sound drove him to slant his lips over hers fully, sampling and teasing at her mouth with all the repressed attraction he’d bottled up since he’d met her. Her fingers dug into his scalp, altering the angle in a way which deepened their kiss. He gripped the fence on either side of her to resist pulling her closer, but he didn’t have to since she melded herself against his body.

HOW TO UNBREAK A HEART by USA Today bestseller Jennie Marts

Rule: If you love her, don’t let her go.

Solitary cowboy, Trip Turner finally has a chance to correct the mistakes he made when he let the woman he loved walk out of his life twelve years ago. But now that Bre Wilson is back, will he be able to unbreak her heart?

Oh Lord, what was he thinking? What was he doing?

His mind was racing, shouting at him to pull back, but he couldn’t.

Couldn’t help himself. The pull was too strong.

He moved closer, dipped his head, his lips barely brushing hers. She inhaled the softest gasp, her breath catching in the middle, and it was the sexiest sound he’d ever heard.

He didn’t think, didn’t rationalize what a dumb idea this was.

His heart and his need were speaking louder than his head as he leaned down and kissed her.

Travis Jackson might not be the white knight Hailey Moore needs, but he’ll risk his future to win her heart.

“What have you done with the overbearing CEO I’ve come to know and…” She paused when he arched a brow. “Sort of like?”

“It’s still me,” he said, drawing her into his arms. “Would you like me to fire you to prove it?”

Billionaire playboy Jake Jericho thinks he has it all, until one phone call reminds him otherwise. Can one week in disguise reform this trust fund playboy, or will his deception destroy the only real love he’s ever known?

Never—ever—had Harper needed—wanted—someone so much. Not just like this. They’d had this. They’d been down this path of sexual everything. She wanted this man. In her life. In her world. She wanted to be in his. Every day.

She’d thought her life had been tied up in a nice, neat bow when she’d gotten married to Charlie. How wrong had she been? When her marriage started to crumble, her ex took up fantasy football. Yeah right. She found out the hard way that the only fantasy Charlie participated in involved the next door neighbor and a skanky French maid costume.

When an A list actor returns to his hometown, old wounds and fresh gossip emerge… along with a second chance at love, if he’s brave enough to stick around.

“Addison,” he said, cupping her bottom and rolling them until he hovered over her. “You’re so sweet. So, so sweet.”

“I don’t want to be sweet.” She arched her back and pressed her full breasts against his chest. “I want to be bad. Really, really bad.”

HER UNWANTED HERO by Veronica Forand

Rule: A real man always helps someone in need… he may be the only one who does.

A disenchanted police officer must choose between keeping a woman’s affection or keeping her alive.

“I’m at the pathetically-in-love stage.”

“Wow. That’s very in love.” She tempered her smile. “Have you ever thought about what you’d sacrifice for her?”

He laughed. “What kind of answer are you expecting? That I’d climb the highest mountain, swim the biggest sea?”

“Think back … John’s rules.”

“The one warning us against dating your best friend’s sister?”

She rolled her eyes as though a teenager again. “Not quite. The one about how a real man always helps someone in need, especially when they can’t help themselves. You’re a man now, right?”

He threw up his hands. Rules were easier to say than live by. “I tried to help her. She doesn’t want it.”

“I guess then the question is what you’re willing to sacrifice in order to keep her safe?”

Rule: A real man never lies, especially to a woman.

Ty Preston ran out on the woman he loved twelve years ago, but now he’s back to prove he’s a changed man. However, Rayne can’t risk getting her heart broken by the cowboy again.

Her heart took a nose-dive into her stomach as goosebumps broke out over her arms again. She wanted to pull her hand away from his but couldn’t seem to get her body to cooperate with her mind. Ty lifted his hand to her face, brushing back a piece of hair that had fallen from her practical ponytail, letting his thumb trail over the edge of her jaw.

Damn this man and the way her body still responded to him.

“You don’t even know if I’m actually any good.” What was supposed to be a protest came out as a feathery whisper of sound, husky and far more sexy sounding than she meant for it to.

“I know exactly how good you are, Rayne.”

Rule: Love should always be fun.

She’s about to change this playboy’s rule book.

“If you didn’t know by now that tangling yourself in a man’s arms might get you kissed, you should. I also think you should know that I’m not good at being tested. Normally I fail and give into my urges. Like me wanting to kiss you, now.”

Rule: A real man always puts his best foot forward…

Zeke always planned to steal her heart, but she left him on base. It’s the bottom of the ninth, and Charity is up to bat. Can she tell her two-all stars the truth or will a foul end her best chance?

He traced the line of her lips as she took several deep gulps of air. “If you keep touching me that way,” her breath tickled his fingertips. “It’ll be hard to think about anything.”

“Not sure whether you want me to stop or want me to kiss you.” Really shouldn’t have gone there. They weren’t ready for that.

He wasn’t.

She opened those sweet brown eyes, the pupils so large he imagined he could drown in them. Wanted to dive in and never leave. They weren’t there. Hell, he’d barely had her back in his life for twenty-four hours, and all he wanted to do was turn everything upside down.

A real man always puts his best foot forward. He knows when it’s time to act. When to take the step he’s been waiting to take…listen to your gut, Zeke. Listen. It knows, even when your heart and your mind are at war.

His mind said think it through. His heart wanted to jump. His gut needed a plan.

“How can you still look at me like that?”

What a stupid question. “Because I still love you.”

Rule: A real man never touches the hired help.

Can Savannah teach serial heartbreaker Walker to be domesticated in ten days and convince him that maybe they can have a shot at a ‘them’ or can Walker convince Savannah there can be a ‘them’ on his terms only?

“One more thing if you’re up for it,” Savannah pulled on the hem of her shirt.

“I’ll be up for it, baby.” Walker grinned.

“I’ll teach you to be domesticated if you’ll teach me to be wild.”

His jaw went slack.

Had he died and gone to heaven?

This whole thing was a terrible idea. Going back to Buckeye? Terrible. Going back with the likes of Brandon Han? Even worse. The plane hit some turbulence at thirty-five thousand feet, as if nodding in agreement with Andrea’s conclusion.

Brandon didn’t want to work with her on the case. He’d made that abundantly clear in Steve’s office. She wanted to assume it was her fault, that he knew about her shortcomings and lack of education as an Omega consultant, but forced herself to stop. He’d mentioned liking to work alone. She could understand that, too. Andrea liked working alone, but for different reasons.

Brandon’s irritation had been pretty tangible when she’d sat down next to him at the airport. It had just grown as they waited for their flight, first when she’d mentioned him being complicated, then when they were both looking through the case files.

By the time they got on the plane, about an hour after their scheduled departure time, Brandon was hardly even talking to her. He was mad—she had no idea why—and she was awkward—as usual around someone she was so attracted to. Good times.

Andrea tried to pretend she was reading the files when he handed them to her, but she wasn’t. She knew better than to even try. Her dyslexia made reading simple books difficult, although she had learned some exercises to help with that. But reading handwritten notes and case files often written in different fonts and sizes—that pretty much just led to a headache and frustration.

She’d had an extra hour at her apartment so she’d used the special software on her computer to scan a few pages so they could be converted into audio clips. She’d found that listening worked much better for her than trying to read. Unfortunately she hadn’t had enough time to scan all the files as she normally would.

Listening to the files on audio clips had just made Brandon more irritated. Andrea had no idea what to do about that, so she ignored it. She would listen to the clips she had, then spend this evening—all night if she had to—reading through the files in her room, when she was alone and it was quiet. She refused to go into that meeting with the local police tomorrow unprepared.

She didn’t want to go back there at all. If it wasn’t for Steve asking her to go, Andrea wouldn’t have done it, serial killer or not.

Maybe they wouldn’t run into anyone she knew. Or maybe the people in Buckeye wouldn’t recognize her. She’d gone to great lengths to look nothing like the girl who had worked at Jaguar’s. Her blond hair was shorter, cut in a flattering bob; her makeup was tasteful. She’d learned how to dress and present herself in a professional manner.

She doubted her own aunt and uncle would recognize her. Not that she planned to drop in on them. She hadn’t seen them since the last time her uncle, in a drunken stupor again, had awakened her with a backhand that had sent her sprawling from her bed to the floor when she was seventeen. Another punch had sent her hurling into a glass table. She’d gotten away from him and hidden that night, wrapping her cut arm in a T-shirt.

The next morning she’d told her aunt, who’d looked the other way again during all the commotion, that she was going to school.

Andrea hadn’t gone to school. And she hadn’t gone back home. Ever again.

She hadn’t gone far, just to the other side of the town she’d only ever known as home, but they hadn’t come looking for her. Had probably been relieved that she’d left.

So yeah, no joyous homecoming in Buckeye.

Nominated for the 2014 & 2015 Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award, and a finalist in multiple other Romance literary awards, Janie Crouch loves to read – almost exclusively romance – and has been doing so since middle school. She cut her teeth on Harlequin (Mills & Boon) Romances when she lived in Wales, UK as a preteen, then moved on to a passion for romantic suspense as an adult.

Janie recently relocated with her husband and four children to Germany (due to her husband’s job as support for the U.S. Military), after living in Virginia for nearly 20 years.  When she’s not listening to the voices in her head (and even when she is), she enjoys traveling, long-distance running, movie-watching, knitting and adventure (obstacle) racing.

She teaches online communication classes for an American college part time, and writes full time. Most of all, she loves to laugh and smile and count her blessings. And her blessings are many.

He’s cocky … she’s feisty … and together they ignite!  Such a fun read!  I smiled, I chuckled, I awwww’ed, and most of all, I devoured every word and lived their hook up right along with them!

Who would have thought a rehab center would be the it place in town to find romance?  Prima ballerina Noelle Nelson and hotshot pro baseball player Jace Monroe certainly didn’t go there looking, but they had fun warming up the sheets one they stumbled across each other!

Noelle is doing everything her physical therapist tells her to do in order to be able to get back to dancing as soon as possible.  She certainly doesn’t need any distractions, but she can’t resist sexy bad boy Jace Monroe when he arrives to rehab his elbow!

Will they get enough motion back to return to their careers?  And if they do, that’s across the country from each other … will their romance survive or was it just a temporary fling?

The latest in Eve Duncan novels does not disappoint!  It’s filled with lots of mystery, danger and intrigue, with a dash of romance as Eve and Joe do best!

In the prior book, Eve reconstructed a skull of a missing child that led them to discover that child’s little sister, still on the run trying not to be killed too.  Eve vowed to protect Cara Delaney and take her home with her and Joe.  This book picks up with a whole lot more danger headed Cara’s way and Eve and Joe trying to figure out how to keep her safe.  They decide that Eve and Cara should join their adopted daughter, Jane, on a treasure recovery expedition in the remote Scottish Highlands, but danger soon follows.

Will Joe be able to figure out a way to get them all safely out of there when they are being hunted through the woods?
